Both Crew Members Of A Downed F-15E Strike Eagle Successfully Recovered

In a high-risk mission deep inside hostile territory, U.S. combat search-and-rescue teams successfully recovered both crew members of a downed F-15E Strike Eagle during what’s being called Operation Epic Fury.

The aircraft, assigned to the 494th Fighter Squadron, was hit by Iranian defenses, forcing the pilot and weapons systems officer to eject into mountainous terrain in southwestern Iran. With enemy forces reportedly searching the area, time was critical.

A first rescue team managed to extract one airman under heavy fire. In a second daring operation, additional teams returned using HH-60W Jolly Green II helicopters, supported by HC-130J aircraft.

Flying low and evading threats, they successfully located and rescued the second airman.

Meanwhile, A-10 Thunderbolt II jets provided cover, suppressing enemy positions during the extraction.

Both crew members are now safely in Iraq and receiving care.
